Content Curation

A Beyoncé song and the need for human translators in a era of livestreaming weddings

The truth is that in this "information era" knowing the difference between "more knowledge" and "better knowledge" has become even more important.

The principle can be applied in the area of language and technological services, and it makes content curation a challenge which AP | PORTUGAL takes on with the same enthusiasm that we have had since our foundation, incorporating elements of the future into the present.

First up,

The Royal Australian Navy is searching for 40 Cryptologic Linguists to hire over the coming year. To generate recruitment buzz, the Navy launched a digital campaign that highlighted the need for human translators. So, the Defense Department uploaded a YouTube video that poked fun at Google Translate by running iconic Beyoncé song lyrics - "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" - through the app followed by a call to action.

Let's talk about behavioral targeting

So, how can you be sure that you're generating the most qualified leads with your targeted ads? While there's no sure fire way to tell, there's an optimization strategy you may be missing: behavioral targeting.

Targeted advertising allows you to use demographic information, including location or age, to surface ads to relevant audiences. Behavioral targeting uses web behavior as the determining factor, instead of demographics. This increases the impact ads have on audiences.

TikTok vs Reels

Companies with social media pages generally have a theme that relates to the organization. The use of colors, sensory details, and styling all contribute to the overall theme of a page. How social media marketers choose the right pieces to include in Stories?

"Whenever I’ve adapted long-form content into Instagram, Snapchat, or Facebook Stories, I’ve tried to imagine what my audience will be doing and thinking when they aimlessly tap through Stories and come across my brand’s," states Kelsey Yamada, one of HubSpot's social media managers.

By the way, Facebook released a TikTok copycat called Reels, which is part of Instagram.

The risk of auto-translating social media content

After a machine translation of a post from English into Thai about the King’s birthday proved offensive to the Thai monarchy, Facebook Thailand said it was deactivating auto-translate on Facebook and Instagram, revamping machine translation (MT) quality, and offering the Thai people its “profound apology.”

After being run through Facebook’s auto-translate feature, the short, innocuous message turned into such an offensive post that it caused the country’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Society to fire off a letter to Facebook Thailand and Singapore, telling the social media giant to take responsibility for the snafu.

Livestreaming wedding? You’ll need extra gadgets

Livestreaming weddings gained popularity in March when the coronavirus pandemic forced millions of Americans to stay inside their homes. And although some states are now loosening their shelter-in-place restrictions, many couples are still broadcasting their ceremonies online.

A smartphone with a strong internet connection is the only tool you really need to livestream a wedding to your friends and family. But if you want to heighten your production quality, and pull off a memorable livestream for your digital guests, you’ll need some extra gadgets.

Last but not the least

An article recommended by Mário Júnior, CEO of AP | PORTUGAL Tech Language Solutions: Before the term “fusion” became a global culinary trend, there was Macanese food – the original fusion cuisine, which blended together Portuguese and Chinese ingredients with spices collected on the Portuguese sea voyages along the coasts of Africa, India and South-East Asia. It all began in 1557 when the Portuguese seafarers settled in Macao.
