"Quality. We hear that word a lot in the translation industry. It’s a hot topic at networking events and a key phrase on translation forums", write Charlotte Fellows, marketing assistant. But how do you achieve continuous quality?
The Globalization & Localization Association (GALA) listed “7 Steps to Achieve Quality in Translation”:
- Request from the client: a deadline, source and target language, word count, source and target file type, CAT Tool, relevant terminology, accessible mode of contact and flexibility
- Knowing all the needs your client has, check if you’re the right person for the job, if not please communicate with your client why not - transparency is key.
- If yes, become fully acquainted with the project - know the target audience and the context as well as the message intended
- Plan your translation method based on the field of the translation
- Create a detailed, client-specific termbase/glossary. This is specially important for long term and regular customers
- Run a quality assurance (QA) check for errors, duplicates, and missing content.
- Keep communication channels open with your client - double check everything just in case.
